hands-on experience with a science-based liberal arts education
A major in Health Sciences (HS) receives hands-on pre-professional experience which graduate schools and professional employers demand and can lead to careers in such areas as exercise physiology, physical therapy, nursing, physician assistant, occupational therapy and athletic training. Select areas of concentration within the Department also prepare students for careers in public health, teaching health and physical education (K-12), or for employment as a wellness-fitness professional.

Students in Health Sciences (HS) department select a major from the below choices:
For students interested in nursing, physician assistant studies, nutrition/dietetics, medicine and dentistry or a variety of other health-related professions.
Students interested in Allied Health fields engage in project-based, hands-on classes and field experiences with an emphasis on an in-depth understanding of the human body. Students have the opportunity to work closely with senior faculty and certified Athletic Trainers. Individual students’ academic programs may be tailored to their chosen path.
Students seeking to further careeres in physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training, kinesiology, exercise physiology, or related job opportunities that do not require advanced degrees.
Students who complete this major will also have the education background required to seek professional certifications through organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association
For students interested in pursuing careers in health education, administration, epidemiology, and research, or pursue additional graduate studies.
Course work within the major will prepare students for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and Certified in Public Health (CPH) certification exams.

Students interested in obtaining a minor in Coaching complete an approved series of courses totaling 23 credits hours
The Health Science minor includes courses in both science and public health. Students interested in the minor may choose among the Nutrition, Human Movement or Physiology options to meet their academic interests.
