People love sports. For many, athletics help make life healthier and happier. Yet there are many ways in which the world of sport could and should be improved: from injury prevention and care, to the culture of youth sports, to how sports are covered in the media.
The Sport and Humanity Hub challenges students to think critically about the role of sports in society—and what it would mean to make sports more humane.
The Sport and Humanity Hub will empower students to imagine, advocate for, and create a better sporting world. As future physical therapists, lawyers, coaches, teachers, advocates, sports marketers, doctors, journalists, historians, storytellers, public health officials, parents, and more, students will:
- Explore how to identify and challenge systemic problems in the worlds of sports and fitness.
- Examine the role of states, governing bodies, and industry in creating our sports reality, understand how they work, and consider how they might be transformed.
- Engage with interdisciplinary fields—including athletics, history, health and exercise science, sociology, media and communication, English, business, psychology, disability studies, health promotion, and others—to find a place in the world of sport and to reimagine and shape its future.
