Students may submit applications to receive funding, in the form of scholarships, for internship opportunities. Each scholarship has different criteria for qualification. Detailed descriptions of qualifying internship features and instructions on how to apply appear below.
In each case, it is the student’s responsibility to apply for opportunities of interest directly with an organization. Students may apply with the intention of being accepted into a program or internship, or once they are officially accepted into a program or internship. If an application is submitted prior to the student officially being offered and accepting an internship, an official notice from the employer will be required to receive the scholarship.
The Career and Professional Development (CPD) team is available to work with students and provide assistance in the search for internships relevant to their major or career interests. Students seeking volunteer leadership/service learning experiences can contact UCARE at ucare@ursinus.edu.
Award Requirements
Agree to complete a minimum of 120 hours over the course of the internship semester to receive credit
Submit reflective essay at conclusion of experience, to be forwarded to the funder
Complete basic biographical questionnaire, to be forwarded to the funder
Serve as campus ambassador for this fund if asked
Students must complete the entire internship registration process including course registration, Handshake Experience Internship Learning Agreement (ILA) form, Internship PREP course on Canvas, and evaluation at end the of the experience by semester/session deadlines to be considered for credit
Academic credit for the internship must be approved by a student’s faculty internship advisor to satisfy the requirements for the department which will be granting academic credit
Failure to complete the experience will result in the student’s requirement to repay a portion of the funding to be determined by Ursinus College.
Deadlines
Students are encouraged to submit scholarship applications as soon as possible but no later than the deadlines listed. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
The Don M. and Alethia G. White Fund for Student Enrichment was established by Don M. White of Mount Joy, PA. The purpose of this fund is to provide funding for student enrichment opportunities during the summer. This fund encourages opportunities for Ursinus students who could not otherwise afford the experience by providing supplemental support for internships or significant volunteer activities, particularly when such experiences are unpaid or incur significant expense. Awards from the fund are intended to provide a range of experiential learning opportunities for students.
Summer experience hours should conclude before the fall semester begins.
Examples may include:
A volunteer leadership or service learning experience
A non-paying internship position
A paid internship in a location that is far from home, such that support would help to underwrite a student’s transportation and/or living expense
An off-campus research assignment, especially if unpaid or of significant expense
Awards are dependent on application and may be up to $3,000.

In good academic standing (preferred minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA) and social standing (no disciplinary actions).

The William A. Norcross M.D. ’70 Fund for Internships in Mental Health Advocacy,
Addiction and Recovery, and Suicide Prevention was established by John Alchemy M.D. and Bradford Stiles M.D. in honor of their teacher and mentor at the University of California San Diego Medical Center, William A. Norcross M.D. ’70. The Fund will provide financial support for internships, externships, and similar experiential learning opportunities for students to work at non-profit institutions focusing on mental health, addiction and recovery, and substance abuse disorders, including at Ursinus College, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, or another non-profit whose mission or scope of work is aligned to this area.
Awards are dependent on application and may be up to $3,000.

The Edith Ford Fund for Internships in Mental Health and Wellness was established by Lorett Cramer ’70 and Geoffrey S. Cramer. The Fund will provide financial support for internships, externships, and summer fellowships for students to work in non-profit organizations, including Ursinus College, focusing on mental health and wellness, particularly those that interact with families in crisis or young people (ages 5-22) who have experienced stress, hardship, or trauma in their lives. The recipients(s) should be sophomore, junior, or senior students with demonstrated academic merit. First preference shall be given to students who are educational studies or psychology majors, with second preference for a student from any major.

These grants support students who find unpaid or minimally paid internship opportunities, enabling them to accept and participate in opportunities they may otherwise be unable to take on. Internships should have a demonstrable connection to the humanities or an aligned field. Funds may be used to support housing and expenses.
