We blend business fundamentals with a deep understanding of the cultural and organizational dynamics of sport.

The major in Sports Management consists of 52 credits and prepares students both for general management roles and for specific sports-related positions.

Students begin their studies with foundational courses in principles of microeconomics (ECON 101) and macroeconomics (ECON-102), building their quantitative skills through Analytic Foundations (ECON-151) or Calculus Stretch I (MATH-105). Courses in Financial Accounting and Reporting (ACCT‑140) and Management and Organizational Behavior (MGT‑200) help students understand how organizations function, how decisions are made, and how financial and managerial factors shape sports enterprises. They also take Managerial Economics (ECON‑201) and either Management Principles and Ethics (MGT‑201) or Introduction to Public Health (HS‑275) to explore how resource allocation, ethics, and leadership influence outcomes in both business and sport settings.

analyze sports from multiple disciplinary angles.

Students tailor their program through courses that analyze sports from multiple disciplinary angles, selecting at least one course focused specifically on the economic, social, or policy dimensions of sports (ECON‑314, SOC‑272, HS‑366W), and develop practical leadership or coaching skills through courses such as Leadership (MGT‑220) or Coaching Methods (HS‑355/356/365). The major concludes with a capstone experience in either Management (MGT‑403W) or Health Sciences (HS‑446), where students integrate what they have learned to investigate a real‑world issue in sports.
