Advance Your Field.
Statistics forms the cornerstone of biological science advancements, providing a way to critically evaluate the evidence for a data-based claim. However, misinterpretation and misapplication of statistical methods can significantly impair decision-making processes and lead to flawed conclusions.
Scientists must develop fundamental statistical literacy to ensure proper application and interpretation of statistical methods and concepts. By cultivating deeper biostatistical expertise, researchers enhance their capacity to contribute meaningfully to scientific advancement, both through research and the communication of results to our scientific colleagues, communities, and the broader public.
Putting Critical thinking and ethics at the Core
The biostatistics minor offers students a comprehensive foundation that balances statistical methodology, practical application, and contextual understanding. This program develops students’ technical proficiency as skilled and innovative users of statistical methods, while simultaneously fostering critical thinking about research outcomes. Students learn to evaluate findings with broader societal contexts, understanding how scientific work contributes to community wellbeing and the public good.
In the Ursinus spirit of asking “What will I do?”, this minor prepares students to be informed stewards of biological data, as well as considering the ethical considerations of how its application can affect the world around us.
