Published in conjunction with the Berman Museum’s landmark mid-career survey of Philadelphia-based artist Rebecca Rutstein, Universal Nature is the first monograph dedicated to her work. Featuring more new and recent paintings, sculpture, video, and textile-based work, the publication explores Rutstein’s ongoing engagement with scientific research and the hidden networks that connect life across the planet.
The catalogue includes an introduction by award-winning journalist Susan Casey, an essay by art historian Laura Turner Igoe, and a conversation between Rutstein and gallerist Bridgette Mayer. Together, these contributions offer new perspectives on an ambitious multidisciplinary practice grounded in the intersections of art, science, and environmental inquiry.
